Risks During Pregnancy: Alcohol

Consuming alcohol is very dangerous during pregnancy for many different reasons.

Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is statistically the most dangerous activity you can undertake. Various studies have shown that it is the leading cause of preventable birth defects in the foetus.

Whenever you consume any liquids it all passes straight to the foetus. With the baby unable to process the alcohol as fast as an adult body the alcohol levels can remain high for a longer period of time. The risks of miscarriage, mental retardation and stillbirth are increased dramatically with alcohol consumption.

Because no amount of alcohol is safe, it is recommended that pregnant women avoid alcohol during pregnancy.
