During Pregnancy

Your doctor has delivered the wonderful news - you're pregnant! But what happens next?

You are about to bring another new life into the world but the next 9 months will be tumultuous and challenging.  For many new mothers, the challenges they face during pregnancy both for themselves and their child are going to be difficult and at times, seem insurmountable.

Even mothers who have already had children face difficult times during pregnancy however it is always best to be forewarned so you know what to expect, and how to deal with any situation that may arise.

The first thing to consider is your doctor.  It's vitally important to find a doctor that you know and trust implicitly.  Ideally a family doctor would be great but you should at least feel comfortable and re-assured during pregnancy.

One of the biggest challenges during pregnancy will be staying healthy.  Whilst it will be easy to give in to the temptation to become lazy, both you and your child deserves the best possible start to life you can give, so regular exercise and a healthy diet are imperative.

Your doctor will be able to direct you in the right way, and there are many books for expectant mothers that are readily available either online or through local libraries. Don't be afraid to use your friends who may already have children for advice or direction either, but remember that what is good for one person may not necessarily be good for another mother during pregnancy.

You will want to avoid as many infections and illness's as possible during pregnancy, so all new mothers are encouraged to stop smoking and to give up alcohol.   For those who do take drugs, it is imperative that you stop immediately.  After all, your child deserves a wonderful start to life.
